This floor spring is in fact a Newman's 700, the 700 and the Coronet (from previous blog post) are identical apart from the Newman has 700 stamped on the box, as can be clearly seen in the picture above and below.

In the next few blogs I will introduce you to the Marquess and the Earl (Earl 778).

Hello MFS,

some things I notice between NT 700 and coronot, the Coronot does not have warning on the coverplate, (this spring has sufficient amount of oil no more should be added)

no "Leggott" stamping near pin on the NT700.

color of the coverplate, black (on Coronot) instead of red or gray (NT 700 and maybe Earl)

part of being a door closer rebuilder, its part mechanic work, part detective work ( pointing out the small differences between the brands and who made what and when and where)

this at times can make things interesting, never a dull moment in the door closer world!! the differnt inventors, designs, history of them is what got me hooked back in 1996-97 still love every bit of it!!

Hello again Jess, the warning sticker is a generic item, the cover plate colours appear to make no difference (I have examples of Earls, Coronets, Marquess and & 700's all with the same colour scheme and Leggots were a window/slash door company. Hope this has cleared things up for you. Thanks again for your interest.

As there is so little information out there with regard to door closers, especially vintage and antique model floor springs, I thought I would start this blog.
