'Invincible' Door Spring

Here again is another 'Invincible' floor spring from around 1910 - 1912, this time however it was supplied by Wing & Webb of Wolverhampton.

The 'Invincible' range was produced by William Newman & Son coming in a number of strengths and guises. These being - single action, with or without check, double action, with or without check, shallow box, single or double action, with or without check and finally a water tight version for wet areas, with or without check.

You can see in this repair the pin was offset due to wear and therefore not closing correctly against the door frame.

Above is all the parts out and below it is back together again with new springs and the wear taken care of, the pin is now square on and therefore the door/doors will close correctly.

Interestingly I found this hundred year + advise note. It was inside one the shoes to the 'Invincible's.'

And finally below an 'Invincible' I found on the web.

Hello MFS,

nice job on the Wing & Webb version of the Invincible floorspring, it is people like me and you that keep antique and Victorian era door closers from being tossed out to the dump/skip.

as for the off center on the spindle shaft/pin, I want to mention a note that some brands of floor closer they will have this,(for example, the single acting Rixsons and Dor-O-Matics in US/Canada) it's preload and is not wear, but for this one, it is due to wear, all has to do with it's internals as well too.

loved the pics of the finished repair and the shiny coverplate, shame they have a deep scratch on coverplate that could not be removed when cleaning them up, loved also seeing the one you found on net with tile floor around, where (what website) did you find this one??

keep up the good work with those floorsprings!!

As there is so little information out there with regard to door closers, especially vintage and antique model floor springs, I thought I would start this blog.
