Definition of a door closer.

Here is the definition of a door closer, a good place to start from I think:

A door closer is defined as any mechanical device that closes a door in a controlled manner, in general after someone opens it, [1] or after it was automatically opened (when opened automatically they are commonly referred as a door opener). The force used to open the door is stored in some type of spring and when released this energy is then utilised to return the door to its original starting position (closed position). Many types of modern door closers can be linked to a buildings fire alarm system, in scenarios where doors need to be held open for the majority of the time they are held back with some sort of electro magnetic device, [2] when the fire alarm is triggered it cuts power to the electro magnetic hold open device allowing the doors to close. These hold open devices can be separate to the door closer or part of its integral design. [3] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door_closer

Thank you for your comments, I checked your site out and found it very impressive. Do you come across many of these old floor springs? I would imagine if you are working with hard wood flooring, if you work in older properties I would guess you have come across them before and would love to see some pictures of them if you do. I will be updating and continuing with my blog, it gives me great pleasure and even more so when someone takes the time to comment, as you have, thank you again.

The doors in your house are usually very different in many ways from the ones you see at an office or a factory. While both are installed for security reasons, the commercial one needs to be fortified in order to withstand constant usage. Installing the wrong doors on your commercial complex could cost you a lot of money in the case of an emergency. Security is just one way the wrong doors can cost, to save on utilities you also need to invest in door closers. This is an important aspect that will ensure security, looks professional and reduces the cost for heating and AC, as well.

As there is so little information out there with regard to door closers, especially vintage and antique model floor springs, I thought I would start this blog.
